Our News
Taunton’s artistic and cultural life is flourishing, as befits a county town and the Taunton Sinfonietta orchestra plays an important part in that, as a vibrant advocate for classical music, not just in Taunton but across the region. Right now, the orchestra is busy getting ready for its next concert, which will be on 6 pm on Sunday 6 September in St. James Church, one of Taunton’s most beautiful and historic venues. The setting and the wonderful acoustics will be the perfect place to host an evening of English classical music, under the title English Connections.
The programme takes the audience on a richly varied musical journey, from the Baroque period to the present day. Beginning with Handel’s magnificent Concerto Grosso No. 6 no. 11, it also includes Telemann’s charming Viola Concerto, Noah Mosley’s dramatic Operatic Suite for Strings and Flute, Vaughan Williams’ much loved The Lark Ascending, and concludes with Holst’s vibrant St. Paul’s Suite. The evening features performances by distinguished musicians including the Sinfonietta’s musical director and violin soloist Mary Eade as well as viola soloist Sabine Cooper and flute soloist Katie Sazanova. It promises to be an engaging programme that celebrates virtuosity, melodic imagination and the enduring appeal of music for strings. Tickets are on sale now for £20 and can be bought at the Taunton Visitor Centre or online at https://www.tauntonsinfonietta.org
